Summary

A cordless handheld vacuum built around a 4 ft flexible hose that reaches under seats and into car crevices, running on the BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX battery platform. Check the runtime before you buy: Wirecutter measured 12 minutes on a full charge, and a full recharge takes 4 hours.

Strengths

  • The 4 ft hose reaches under seats and into crevices; TechGearLab measured the furthest reach of any handheld vacuum it tested.
  • Picks up dust, birdseed and glitter easily.
  • The rubber-nubbed pet-hair tool collected close to 95% of hair from test surfaces.
  • Runs on the shared 20V MAX battery platform, so existing B+D battery owners can use their own packs.
  • Washable pre-filter and pleated filter mean no ongoing filter costs.
  • Two-year warranty.

Weaknesses

  • Wirecutter measured 12 minutes of runtime on a full charge.
  • A full recharge takes 4 hours.
  • Struggles with larger debris such as chips and Cheerios.
  • TechGearLab found it quite loud and requiring two-handed operation.
  • No onboard tool storage; attachments live on the charging base.
  • The battery is integrated and not designed to be user-replaced.

Runtime and charging

The 15-minute claimed runtime drops to 12 minutes in Wirecutter’s testing. TechGearLab measured about 15 minutes. A full recharge takes 4 hours, which Wirecutter notes is long compared to competitors. The manual specifies a charging temperature range of 10–40°C (50–104°F). The manual says it is not dangerous to leave the appliance on the charger indefinitely but recommends unplugging after 24 hours to save energy.

Hose reach and cleaning performance

The integrated 4 ft flexible hose is the reason to buy this vacuum. TechGearLab measured it reaching 36 inches into a 3-inch gap and 7.5 inches into a 1.25-inch gap — the furthest of any product it tested. Wirecutter found it easily picks up dust, birdseed and glitter but struggles with larger debris such as chips and Cheerios. The rubber-nubbed pet-hair tool collected close to 95% of hair from test surfaces in TechGearLab’s testing and performs decently on most upholstery and car surfaces per Wirecutter. Airflow measured 1427 fpm, above average for the category, though TechGearLab noted it left flour residue and some oat fragments in carpet.

Noise and convenience

TechGearLab rated convenience 6.5/10, noting the vacuum is quite loud — too loud to carry on a conversation over — and requires two-handed operation. There is no onboard tool storage; attachments store on the charging base. A long-term owner at HomeAndTome reports the attachment holders on the charging caddy can feel loose. The translucent dustbin is easy to empty but requires frequent emptying during larger jobs.

Maintenance and ownership costs

The plastic pre-filter and pleated filter are washable in warm, soapy water. HomeAndTome recommends air-drying filters for at least 24 hours before refitting. The manual directs users to BLACK+DECKER service centers for repairs and genuine parts (1-800-544-6986). The battery is integrated and not designed as a user-replaceable part. Consumer Reports lists the model at $90 (2026). TechGearLab’s review showed a list price of $150 in 2021/2022. Wirecutter listed it at $90 from Walmart at the time of their 2026 guide update.

Is it worth it?

At $90 it makes sense for buyers who already own BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX batteries or who prioritize hose reach and comfort over raw suction. It is not the right choice if you need to clean large debris or want a single charge to detail an entire vehicle. The BDH2020FLFH variant adds a floor head if you need one. If you do not already own 20V MAX batteries, factor the cost of a battery and charger into the price.

Which model this is
