Summary

A 280W pet-focused cordless stick vacuum with a self-cleaning brush roll and a HEPA Sealed Allergen System, model 4039. Check the bin size before you buy: at 0.4 liters it fills quickly in a home with pets.

Strengths

  • A 280W motor and a self-cleaning brush roll built for pet hair.
  • The HEPA Sealed Allergen System is rated at 99.7% capture of 0.3-micron particles.
  • It converts between stick, handheld and high-reach for floors, upholstery and ceilings.
  • FurFinder LED headlights light up debris on the floor.
  • The battery comes out, so the machine can outlive a worn pack.
  • The related DualBrush carries a five-year warranty, and the Canadian 4039B links to a five-year one too.

Weaknesses

  • The 0.4-liter dirt cup is small and needs frequent emptying with pets.
  • No independent instrumented test of the exact 4039 exists.
  • The 280W figure is motor power, not measured suction.
  • Runtime claims are manufacturer figures under eco and handheld conditions.
  • The warranty terms could not be confirmed from a US-specific page.
  • Long-term reliability and failure data are not published.

What it does

The FurGuard is BISSELL’s pet-oriented cordless stick vacuum. The self-cleaning single brush roll is meant to stop hair wrapping around the roller, the FurFinder upholstery tool has a de-furring strip for embedded hair, and the headlights pick out debris. It also stands upright on its own in the Canadian and CNET descriptions, though the US page does not say so.

Filtration and battery

The HEPA Sealed Allergen System is rated to trap 99.7% of dust, pollen and dander particles 0.3 microns and smaller, tested to ASTM F1977. The removable 25.2V battery is the part that ages first; because it comes out, you can replace it rather than scrap the machine. BISSELL’s parts page for the 4039 lists a pre-motor foam filter as a replacement item.

What it costs

BISSELL sells the FurGuard direct at a $299.99 list, and its own page showed a $179.99 checkout offer when this was checked in October 2026. CNET reported it at $200 in February 2026 after a $300 list, noting it had been seen as low as $150. The Canadian 4039B is $349.99. Running costs are replacement filters, replacement brush rolls and a new battery after 2-3 years.

Is it worth it

Under $200 the feature set is strong: 280W, a self-cleaning brush roll, HEPA filtration, three configurations and headlights. From $200 to $250 it is fair, and above that you are paying for the pet-specific design. The gap to be aware of is evidence: no instrumented test of this exact model exists, and the closest independent testing is Wirecutter’s review of the related DualBrush 4255, which uses a different dual-roll brush. That machine cleaned pet hair well in Wirecutter’s tests but had the smallest bin among their picks and felt heavy to maneuver.

Which model this is

This page covers the BISSELL PowerClean FurGuard 4039 in the US. The listing ASIN is B0DQLLPYGM. Do not confuse it with the PowerClean FurFinder 4052 at 200W or the PowerClean DualBrush 4255, which uses a dual-roll brush head.
