Beelink SER8 (Ryzen 7 8745HS): problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-17
Summary
The recurring problems are wireless — weak Wi-Fi and Bluetooth dropouts from the Intel AX200 inside the metal case — plus high Windows idle-power draw tied to the AMD GPIO driver and chipset-driver freezes that a June 2026 BIOS update fixes. There are no subscriptions and Windows 11 Pro is included, so running costs are electricity plus optional memory and SSD upgrades. At or under roughly $500 it is a strong buy for a quiet 8-core mini PC; above $600 the chassis and port selection are what you are paying for.
Common problems and fixes
- Freezes, stutter and random reboots — Beelink acknowledged a chipset-driver conflict that followed Windows and AMD driver updates and fixed it with a June 2026 BIOS update (V035.P8C0M0C15.16); a Reddit owner logged a DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION freeze traced to an AMD chipset driver. Update the BIOS and chipset drivers on any unit you buy, used ones included. [2][14]
- HDR crashes over HDMI 2.1 — one owner reports the system crashing when enabling HDR with a Samsung S95F TV, suspected FRL-controller incompatibility. No fix is documented. [1]
- No VESA mount — the chassis has no VESA holes and no bracket is included; third-party SER8 mounts sell for about $49-54 on Newegg. [16]
Parts and consumables
Yearly running cost
No recurring subscription; Windows 11 Pro is included, so there is nothing to renew. The only running cost is electricity: an in-depth review measured about 7-8W at the wall at idle, up to roughly 86W under combined CPU and GPU load, and about 0.8W when off. A yearly dollar figure needs your local kWh rate, which the sources do not provide. The main optional costs are upgrades — memory to 256GB, a second SSD up to 8TB — and a third-party VESA mount at about $49-54 (Newegg, at time of check). [8][16]
When it is a good buy
- At or under roughly $500 (new, 32GB/1TB) — a strong buy for a quiet 8-core mini PC with USB4, dual M.2 and 2.5GbE; an Ars reviewer paid $499 before tax (about $549.90 after tax) in December 2024. [8]
- $500-600 — fair; same-platform rivals such as GMKtec K8/K8 Plus and Geekom often match the CPU and GPU for less. [6][7][17]
- $600-700 — weak unless the quiet metal chassis, near-silent cooling or specific ports justify it. [6][17]
- Above $700 — poor value; a September 2026 TechRadar deal listed the SER8 at $769 with Windows 11 Pro and a three-year warranty. [10]
- Beelink’s own store listed the 32GB/1TB at around $619 at the time of this check (October 2026), inside the weak band. [1]
- If you need an NPU, the 8845HS variant of the same chassis is the alternative — 24GB/1TB listed at $799 (compare-at $959) — but a community benchmark thread puts the single-core gap at roughly 5-7%, favoring the 8845HS at a materially higher price. [19][15]
