Summary
A 1.28 kg aluminum ultraportable with a 14-inch 3K 120Hz OLED touchscreen, 16GB of soldered RAM and a 75 Wh battery. Check the panel and the RAM before you buy: the same chassis ships with either a 3K 120Hz or a 1200p 60Hz screen, and the 16GB cannot be upgraded.
Strengths
- The 3K 120Hz OLED is the standout: sharp, color-accurate and smooth.
- Light at 1.28 kg in an aluminum, MIL-STD 810H chassis.
- Two Thunderbolt 4 ports plus USB-A, HDMI 2.1 and a headphone jack cover most workflows without dongles.
- The 255H is roughly 14% faster than the previous 155H, with much stronger Arc 140T graphics.
- Keyboard and touchpad are well-regarded across reviews.
- With the 1200p 60Hz panel, light use reaches 14-19 hours.
Weaknesses
- The 16GB of RAM is soldered, so buyers who need 32GB must pay for the other variant.
- The 3K 120Hz panel cuts battery life; Laptop Mag measured 9:06 on the 285H.
- The CPU throttles under sustained load and the Intel model’s fan whines at high pitch.
- The glossy OLED is reflective and hard to use in bright rooms.
- The panel uses 480 Hz PWM dimming below 85% brightness, which can strain sensitive eyes.
- The 512GB SSD is the only drive, and Notebookcheck saw it throttle under heat.

Which panel you’re buying
Two 14-inch OLED panels ship in this chassis, and listings do not always separate them. The 3K panel (Samsung ATNA40CU09-0) is 2880x1800 at 243 PPI, 500 nits SDR and 1000 nits HDR peak, and refreshes at 120Hz. The alternative (Samsung ATNA40CT02-0) is 1920x1200 at 162 PPI and 60Hz. Both are touch-enabled with stylus support. Brightness numbers vary in testing: ASUS lists 500 nits, Laptop Mag measured 314 nits on the 285H/3K, and Notebookcheck measured 392 nits on the 155H/3K. The panel dims with 480 Hz PWM below 85% brightness, which can cause eye strain, and the glossy finish reflects overhead light. If you work near a window or under bright lights, budget for glare either way.
Performance and thermals
The 255H has 16 cores and 16 threads, against 22 threads on the older 155H; multi-threaded work is still faster thanks to the newer architecture, and the Arc 140T is a clear step up from the older Arc 8-core. The catch is a thin chassis. In sustained Cinebench loops the CPU starts strong and declines over about 14 runs, and Notebookcheck saw the SSD throttle under heat. The Intel model runs warmer and louder than the AMD Ryzen AI 7 350 version of the same laptop, with a high-pitched fan under load; Whisper mode quiets it but costs performance. Reviewers also noted high latency in benchmark runs, which points to driver optimization rather than hardware.
Battery life
ASUS claims up to 18 hours, but the panel decides what you get. With the 1200p 60Hz screen, tests reached 14-19 hours in light use. With the 3K 120Hz screen, Laptop Mag measured 9:06 on the 285H at 150 nits, while PCMag’s 155H/3K test reached 19:22. Power draw rises with the brighter, faster panel, so pick the 1200p screen if battery life matters more than sharpness.
Is it worth it?
ASUS discounts the Zenbook 14 lineup often, so wait for a sale. Best Buy listed the 255H with the 1200p 60Hz panel at $649.99, and the 285H with the 3K 120Hz panel, 32GB and 1TB at $1,399. Notebookcheck’s live price block showed the 255H with the 1200p panel, 16GB and 1TB at $839. No stable US price for the exact 255H, 3K 120Hz, 16GB and 512GB configuration turned up, so treat those as reference points. Under $1,000 the package makes sense; above it, the soldered 16GB and 512GB SSD are hard limits to live with.
Which model this is
This page covers the 2025 UX3405CA with the Core Ultra 7 255H, 16GB of LPDDR5X and a 3K 120Hz OLED touchscreen. Don’t confuse it with the 2024 UX3405MA, which uses Meteor Lake chips (155H or 185H), has 22 threads and Wi-Fi 6E, or with the 1200p 60Hz OLED version of the same chassis. The listing is ASIN B0FP5ST935.
