Summary
A tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router for gamers and heavy home networks, with eight 2.5 Gbps ports and free-for-life AiProtection. Check your internet plan and client devices first: there are no 10 Gbps ports, and the extended 6 GHz range needs AFC-capable gear.
Strengths
- Eight 2.5 Gbps ports give most homes multi-gig wired capacity without a switch.
- Strong 5 GHz and 6 GHz throughput in independent tests, with 6 GHz reaching the 2.5 Gbps LAN limit.
- Free-for-life AiProtection Pro security and a comprehensive ASUSWRT firmware.
- AiMesh compatibility lets it join or lead a mesh network.
- Solid build quality and compact chassis praised by reviewers.
- ROG Aura RGB lighting and a polished gaming-focused interface.
Weaknesses
- No 10 Gbps ports and no 802.3ad LACP, so wired throughput tops out at 2.5 Gbps.
- 2.4 GHz throughput measured at only 220-240 Mbps against a 688 Mbps claim.
- USB 3.2 Gen 1 measured below 100 MB/s with uneven writes.
- Internal antennas give slightly less multi-floor coverage than external-antenna models.
- High price and a steep configuration curve per reviewers.
- AFC extended range needs compatible clients and is billed after four free years.

Performance and throughput
Independent testing from three specialist sites supports strong wireless and wired performance. HardwarePremium found Ethernet latency rising only about 15 ms under download and 2 ms under upload, with speeds near 900 Mbps each way on its connection. Einfoldtech rated performance 9.5 out of 10 and overall 9.3 out of 10, testing with an M1 2.5 Gbps fibre connection and an Intel BE200 client with MLO enabled. RTINGS lists a review page for this model but no test data could be extracted from it.
The 6 GHz band can outrun the router’s own 2.5 Gbps ports, so a faster internet plan will not show its full speed through this hardware. Buyers on 10 Gbps service or needing link aggregation should look at models with 10 Gbps ports.
6 GHz range and AFC
AFC is cloud-coordinated standard power for 6 GHz and is supported only in the United States. The service is included for the first 4 years and billed after that. Compatible clients include iPhone 15, 16 and 17 series, iPad Pro M2 and M4, Samsung S24 and S25 Ultra, and Intel AX210/BE200 and MediaTek MT7925+ adapters.
Ports, USB and wired limits
There are eight 2.5 Gbps ports in total, one WAN and seven LAN, plus USB 3.2 Gen 1. That removes the need for an external switch in many setups. The limits are the missing 10 Gbps ports and 802.3ad LACP, which cap wired throughput at 2.5 Gbps, and the USB port, which measured below 100 MB/s with uneven writes. The 2.5 Gbps WAN also caps use on faster plans.
Firmware, security and setup
The router runs ASUSWRT with Game Boost, OpenNAT, VPN Fusion, AiProtection Pro and AiMesh support. AiProtection Pro is free for life. Early firmware builds had wireless connectivity issues with some IoT devices; these were fixed after updating to build 3.0.0.6.102_39117 and performing a factory reset. Einfoldtech recommends updating to the latest firmware and factory resetting after upgrade for stability. The chassis uses internal antennas and a sealed cooling design with carbon-nano-coated aluminum heat plates, which implies limited user serviceability, though this is not documented.
Is it worth it?
On the evidence read, the GS-BE18000 is a high-end enthusiast router: excellent 5 GHz and 6 GHz throughput, strong load handling and extensive firmware, but no 10 Gbps ports or LACP. Value is strongest for users on 1-2.5 Gbps service who want many multi-gig LAN ports and gaming features. Buyers on 10 Gbps service or needing link aggregation should look elsewhere.
Which model this is
This page covers the ASUS ROG Strix GS-BE18000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router, model name GS-BE18000. Do not confuse it with the related ROG Strix GS-BE7200, GS-BE12000 or ROG Rapture GT-BE98, which are separate models on the same manufacturer site. AFC for 6 GHz standard power is supported only in the United States. The manufacturer page lists a 2.0 GHz quad-core CPU, though the features page says tri-core; the spec page figure is used here.
