Summary
A 65 g (published) right-handed ergonomic wireless gaming mouse with a 42,000 dpi AimPoint Pro sensor, tri-mode connectivity, 3-zone RGB and hot-swappable main switches. - Hot-swappable main switches let you try different switch types without soldering.
- Web-based Gear Link configuration avoids installing Armoury Crate.
- Solid build quality and components praised by owners.

- At 65 g published it is heavy by modern ultralight standards.
- Hot-swap support is limited to certain switch types, not universal.

Full research notes and sources
Battery life and charging
The mouse is rated at up to 192 h on Bluetooth (lighting off) and 127 h on 2.4 GHz (lighting off) at 1000 Hz, dropping to 91 h and 82 h with default lighting on. One owner reported about 55 h of mixed use at 50% lighting and 1000 Hz, below the rated 82 h. Power comes from an internal rechargeable battery charged over USB-C; there is no wireless charging. The battery life figure is workload and lighting dependent, so treat the ratings as a ceiling rather than a guarantee.
Polling rate and the booster
Default polling runs at 125/250/500/1000 Hz. Bluetooth does not support the higher rates per the quick start guide. If you want 8000 Hz wireless play, budget for the booster on top of the mouse.
Software and configuration
Configuration runs through Armoury Crate or the Gear Link web driver. Gear Link is praised for avoiding a full software install, while Armoury Crate draws complaints from some owners. Onboard memory holds 5 profiles switchable via a button combination but does not support macros or Windows shortcuts. The DPI button sits on the underside of the mouse.
Switches, feet and repairability
The hot-swappable Push-Fit Switch Socket II accepts 3-pin mechanical and 5-pin optical switches, and two spare ROG Micro Switches II come in the box. Third-party switches (Omron, Kailh) are reported compatible. Consumable grip tape and mouse feet are excluded from warranty coverage, and the quick start guide covers firmware updates via Armoury Crate but no detailed cleaning or maintenance procedure was found. Owners can replace worn switches without soldering, but the guide is only a 2-page quick start.
Firmware and reliability
An ASUS forum thread on firmware 1.00.09 reports the mouse freezing for 10-20 s, with toggling the connection mode switch as a workaround. One owner reported a first unit whose battery would not hold a charge and was RMA’d. One commenter reported a scroll wheel encoder failure after 3-4 months on multiple units of the original Keris, not necessarily the Origin. Population rates for these issues are unknown, so treat them as known annoyances rather than defects.
Is it worth it?
At about $130-140 (TechPowerUp lists $139.99; MouseMetric about $130, updated Aug 2026), the Origin offers a 42,000 dpi AimPoint Pro sensor, tri-mode connectivity, 3-zone RGB, hot-swap switches, Gear Link configuration and rated battery life up to 127 h (RF, lighting off), but weighs more than the Keris II Ace (54 g) and needs a separately purchased booster for 8000 Hz. Reviewers split: Can Buy or Not calls it worth the price; Gamereactor calls it overpriced but kept it; MouseMetric’s aggregated YouTube commenters call the price too high. Value depends on whether hot-swap switches, RGB and longer battery matter more than weight. Singapore retail was S$199 in two reviews, and the booster was noted at S$39 there, with no US price found.
