Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 79 g right-handed tri-mode wireless gaming mouse with a 36,000-dpi ROG AimPoint sensor, swappable switches and up to 119 hours of claimed battery life. Check your firmware: recent ROG forum reports describe a middle-click release fault after a firmware update.

Strengths

  • 79 g right-handed shape, about 10 g lighter than the base Gladius III Wireless.
  • 36,000-dpi ROG AimPoint sensor with 650 IPS tracking and 50 G acceleration.
  • Swappable Push-Fit Switch Socket II, with spare switches and a switch remover in the box.
  • Generous accessory bundle: grip tape, a dongle extender and spare PTFE feet.
  • Long claimed battery life, up to 119 hours in 2.4 GHz and 143 hours in Bluetooth.
  • Tri-mode connectivity over 2.4 GHz RF, Bluetooth 5.1 and wired USB.

Weaknesses

  • No instrumented test of this exact model; RTINGS and PCMag reviewed the older non-AimPoint version.
  • ROG forum reports describe a firmware regression where the middle-click release is lost in all three connection modes.
  • Other owners report the mouse getting stuck in DPI scroll mode, including one warranty-replacement unit.
  • A single DPI button is inconvenient, and the scroll wheel has no adjustable resistance.
  • Battery-life figures are theoretical manufacturer ratings, with no independent measurement of the AimPoint variant.
  • Armoury Crate needs both the dongle and the mouse connected for updates, and was seen as needing improvement.

Battery life and real-world use

ASUS rates the battery at up to 119 hours in 2.4 GHz and up to 143 hours in Bluetooth with lighting off, dropping to 86 and 98 hours respectively with default lighting on. The 370 mAh cell is not a user part; charging and eventual switch or feet replacement are the running costs. ALKtech still had 57% left after seven days of about seven hours a day with RGB on, and Pokde reported about five days between charges at 14–17 h/day with RGB on. Neither is a standardized measurement, and ASUS’s own figures are theoretical. A ROG forum thread titled “Rog Gladius III battery drain in seconds” reports a full charge draining within about a minute, though it does not clearly identify the AimPoint sub-model.

Tracking and sensor

The ROG AimPoint optical sensor is rated 36,000 dpi with 650 IPS tracking and 50 G acceleration, and the mouse polls at 1000 Hz. ASUS markets a pivoted button mechanism for 0 ms click latency and ROG Micro Switches rated at 70 million clicks. There is no instrumented test of this exact model: RTINGS and PCMag reviewed the older non-AimPoint Gladius III Wireless, and PCMag found that version underwhelming for its price.

Repairs and upkeep

The Push-Fit Switch Socket II lets you replace the main switches with ROG Micro Switches or other 3-pin mechanical and 5-pin optical switches, and the box includes two spare switches, a switch remover and spare PTFE feet. ALKtech describes reaching the sockets by undoing two screws and prising the shell apart. The mouse holds 5 onboard profiles, selectable with a bottom-mounted Profile button. Firmware updates run through Armoury Crate, which requires connecting both the dongle and the mouse and was seen as needing improvement.

Is it worth it?

Value depends on price, and no current US price for the standard model was confirmed. ASUS Canada eStore lists the mouse at CAD $149.99 (ASUS ROG Canada, 2026), and ALKtech noted a suggested retail price of S$189, about US$138 at end-November 2022. At a US price near that range it competes with the Razer DeathAdder V3 Pro and Logitech G PRO X SUPERLIGHT, and Pokde called it good value. The repairability and sensor are the draw; the thin independent-test base for this exact model is the trade-off.

Which model this is

This page covers the ASUS ROG Gladius III Wireless AimPoint 36K, sold in Black and Moonlight White, with retail SKU P711 for the black model. A red EVA-02 Edition uses model P715. It is a distinct model from the non-AimPoint ROG Gladius III Wireless (89 g, older sensor) and from the wired ROG Gladius III. Don’t confuse it with those.
