Summary
The ASUS ROG Chakram X Origin is a 123 g right-handed tri-mode wireless gaming mouse built around the ROG AimPoint sensor and a removable thumb joystick; it is the lighter, non-Qi version of the ROG Chakram X. Check which version you want before buying: the Origin drops the sibling’s Qi wireless charging.
Strengths
- Independent lab testing of the sibling found flawless CPI accuracy and true 8000 Hz wired polling.
- The main switches are hot-swappable without soldering, and two spares plus a switch remover are in the box.
- Triple connectivity and 5 onboard profiles let you move the mouse between machines.
- Bundled long and short joysticks plus a socket cover let you tune the thumb control or remove it.
- Battery life reaches up to 150 hours over Bluetooth.
- A bundled USB RF extender keeps the 2.4 GHz receiver close to the mouse.
Weaknesses
- At 123 g it is heavy next to modern gaming mice; one lab weighed the sibling at around 128 g.
- One independent review reported the left and right buttons firing when the mouse is set down, causing misclicks.
- Armoury Crate is required for configuration, and one review could not get its settings page to load.
- The 150-hour battery headline is the Bluetooth figure; 2.4 GHz drops to 114 hours.
- 8000 Hz polling works only in wired mode; over Bluetooth the claimed 250 Hz is close to a normal 133 Hz link.
- The Origin has no Qi charging, unlike the ROG Chakram X.

Battery, charging and wireless
Battery life depends on how you connect. ASUS rates the built-in lithium-ion pack at up to 150 hours over Bluetooth and 114 hours over 2.4 GHz, both without lighting. Quick charge tops up to 25 hours from a 15-minute charge, but only from a USB 3.2 port or a suitable adapter.
The 8000 Hz polling headline applies only in wired mode; over 2.4 GHz RF the mouse runs at 1000 Hz, and over Bluetooth at 250 Hz. Independent testing of the sibling found the Bluetooth figure behaves like a normal 133 Hz link, with the higher number coming from duplicated packets rather than real data. On launch firmware the sibling had noticeable wireless motion delay, fixed by firmware V22.02.17, so update before you judge the wireless feel.
Switches, joystick and repairability
The main switches sit in Push-Fit Switch Socket II, which accepts 3-pin mechanical or 5-pin optical switches, and ASUS bundles two spare micro-switches plus a switch remover, so a worn or too-light switch can be swapped without soldering. The top cover and buttons are magnetic and screw-less, and the thumb joystick pulls out to be replaced with the included flat cover. The long and short joysticks let you choose how far the stick sits under your thumb.
In testing of the sibling, the sensor showed no CPI deviation at 400, 800, 1600 and 3200 CPI, with click latency around 0.1 ms wired and 2.2 ms over 2.4 GHz. Wireless motion delay measured about 1 ms at 1600 CPI and about 2 ms at 36,000 CPI, with no smoothing kinks.
Weight and software
Weight is the main cost.
One independent review of the platform also reported the left and right buttons firing when the mouse is set down, called the switches touchy, and could not get Armoury Crate to open its settings page; it also found the four thumb buttons small and the joystick set far forward, needing a hand shift. Armoury Crate is the only configuration path, and testers list it among the main negatives. Those findings come from the sibling, not the Origin, and reflect early firmware.
Is it worth it?
At the ASUS Store price of $139.99 the Origin is a feature-heavy mouse rather than a light one: a real analog joystick, hot-swappable switches, triple connectivity and 8000 Hz wired polling are unusual together.
The sibling Chakram X adds Qi charging, has been discounted into roughly $119–$188 at third-party retailers, and was listed at $159.99 when TechPowerUp reviewed it in December 2022, so the Origin mainly makes sense for buyers who want the lighter shell and will never use wireless charging. ITmedia reported the Origin around ¥20,000 at its 2023 launch in Japan. Prices move, so treat these as dated points and check the offer before you buy.
Which model this is
This page covers the ROG Chakram X Origin, part number 90MP02N1-BMAA00, in translucent black and silver. It is a variant of the ROG Chakram X, not a separate platform: the two share the ROG AimPoint sensor, the joystick, the 11 programmable buttons, the switch socket, the 9-zone RGB and 5 onboard profiles, and differ only in weight (123 g vs 127 g) and Qi charging, which the Origin does not have. Don’t mix it up with the ROG Chakram X, the older ROG Chakram or the Chakram Core.
