Anycubic PLA+ 1.75 mm filament: problems, parts and running costs
Checked: 2026-10-23
Summary
Owners report occasional tangles (one owner 7 of 10 black rolls), first-layer adhesion failures and stringing that need profile tuning, plus end-of-roll sticking on refill coils [4][5][6][8]. At $17.47/kg, a 6 kg/year user spends about $104.82 and a 12 kg/year user about $209.64 in spools [1]. It is a fair buy at $15-18/kg for a full spool and attractive below $15/kg in bulk [1][3].
Common problems and fixes
- Tangles and feeder stops on some black rolls — one owner reported 7 of 10 newly bought black rolls tangled on July 19, 2026, while others report 100-150 kg or 100+ rolls without the issue and blame a loose filament end crossing during handling; no factory failure rate exists. Keep the filament end secured, photograph the path and lot code, and report repeat jams before the return deadline. [4]
- First-layer adhesion failures — a May 17, 2026 Anycubic Kobra X owner had several failed first layers; others succeeded at 220 °C nozzle / 60 °C bed with plate cleaning, and a July 2024 Ender 3 V2 case improved after raising nozzle temperature toward 220 °C. Clean the plate and tune temperature and profile before blaming the filament. [5][15]
- End-of-roll sticking on refill coils — the strong tape attaching the final filament end to the refill core can stop a Bambu auto-change from continuing; this is specific to the refill format, not every standard 1 kg spool. Test the exact packaging and auto-switch procedure before unattended runs. [1][8]
- No native 0.25 mm slicer preset — a September 28, 2026 Kobra X owner found no Anycubic PLA+ preset for a 0.25 mm nozzle even though the manufacturer advertises support for nozzles 0.2 mm or larger. Duplicate the base PLA profile and calibrate flow and temperature. [1][7]
- RFID and slicer profile mismatches (different grade) — a March 2026 Kobra user reported a High Speed PLA RFID mismatch, showing identification chips and profiles are an extra workflow layer that is not always seamless. Verify recognition on your exact machine and firmware. [17]
- Low heat resistance for warm environments — heat deflection is 50 °C and glass transition about 54 °C, so parts creep or distort in warm cars or near electronics long before the 162 °C melting point. Keep it for indoor models and lightly loaded fixtures. [2]
- Brand-specific blend, not a standard — PLA+ here is a proprietary blend, so settings do not transfer between brands and the “2X toughness” claim is not independently verified. [2][16]
Parts and consumables
- Anycubic PLA+ 1.75 mm 1 kg full spool (no part number published) — $17.47 for selected Texture Silver at Anycubic US in October 2026, reference $23.99; bulk tiers from $9.61/kg; replaced when the spool is used up. [1][3]
- Anycubic PLA+ spool-less refill 1 kg — $17.99 at Anycubic US in October 2026, reference $20.99; bulk tiers from $10.99/kg; requires a matching reusable shell; replaced when 1 kg is used up. [8]
- No proprietary nozzle or filter — standard nozzles 0.2 mm or larger are recommended; basic 0.4 mm nozzle and printer hardware are separate equipment, and no PLA+-specific filter needs periodic replacement. [1][2]
Yearly running cost
At $17.47/kg, 6 kg/year costs $104.82 in spools and 12 kg/year costs $209.64; at the $23.99 reference price the same usage costs $143.94 or $287.88. [1] Drying electricity is optional and illustrative only: about 1.92 kWh, or $0.38 at an assumed $0.20/kWh, for a 60 W dryer running 8 h four times a year. [2] Shipping to mainland US is free, with one business day processing plus 3-8 business days in transit. [9] No filters, pods or subscriptions apply to filament. [1]
When it is a good buy
Price thresholds from US pages checked October 23, 2026: selected Texture Silver $17.47 at Anycubic US (reference $23.99), Black snapshot $16.99, global Red $18.99, and refill $17.99 (reference $20.99); bulk tiers from $9.61/kg and $10.99/kg. [1][3][8][14] Below $15/kg is attractive in bulk if color and quantity fit your needs; $15-18/kg for a full spool is fair; above $20/kg is harder to justify for decorative prints unless you want that pigment or ACE integration. [1][3] Alternatives: Inland PLA+ White at $13.99 (Fairfax) or $14.99 (Flushing) at Micro Center, better for a nearby buyer who does not need ACE tags; PolyLite PLA Pro Black at $19.99 at B&H, better when an established retailer channel and its own formulation matter; ELEGOO PLA Plus Sky Blue at $19.99 on a Walmart seller listing, better if you need that color or retailer return path. [11][12][13] Anycubic PLA Basic at $15.99 suits display-only prints if toughness is irrelevant. [16]
