Summary

A large-format enclosed CoreXY 3D printer with a 350 × 350 × 350 mm build volume and the ACE 2 Pro multi-color unit in the box. Check the slicer and your power circuit before you buy: multicolor work leans on Anycubic’s own software, and the machine is rated at 2200 W.

Strengths

  • The 350 × 350 × 350 mm build volume prints large parts in one piece.
  • The enclosed CoreXY frame and active chamber heating keep warping-prone materials stable.
  • The ACE 2 Pro dries filament while printing and handles up to 16 colors.
  • LeviQ 3.0 auto leveling works well in reviews of the series.
  • Owners describe print quality as genuinely very good, with strong dimensional accuracy.
  • An owner spec comparison puts it at about half the price of a Bambu Lab H2S with 15.9% more volume.

Weaknesses

  • Factory quality control is inconsistent, owners report in the long-term thread.
  • Anycubic Slicer does not report purge amounts, so multicolor material estimates are guesswork.
  • Remote monitoring through the app times out frequently.
  • The print head is not easy to service.
  • Power draw of 2200 W at 220 V may need a dedicated circuit.
  • The US store lists a 1-year warranty while some regional sites list 2 years.

Large-format printing and the ACE 2 Pro

The S1 Max is the 350 mm sibling of the Kobra S1; the smaller printer has a 250 mm build volume and shares the CoreXY layout, LeviQ 3.0 leveling and 4.3-inch screen. The Combo adds the ACE 2 Pro, which feeds four colors from the base setup and can expand to 16 with additional units. It also dries filament while printing, which matters for PETG and engineering materials. TPU only prints in a single color, because it is not compatible with ACE feeding. The extruder is direct drive with dual gears, and the 350 °C hotend with a hardened steel nozzle covers ABS, ASA, PC, PA and carbon-fiber composites.

Software and slicing

The machine runs Kobra OS, slicing happens in Anycubic Slicer Next on a PC, and models come from Makeronline. The slicer is based on Orca Slicer but was criticized in the S1 review for not reporting purge amounts, which makes material estimates for multicolor prints impossible, and for lacking a purge object. Filament loading is described as a chore, and the app’s remote monitoring times out often. Treat the software as the weakest part of the package, not the hardware.

Quality control, repairs and upkeep

Owners of the S1 series report a set of recurring faults: a pinched blue wire to the filament sensor, Z-offset drift from a dirty bed or nozzle, and filament loading problems. One long-term S1 owner ran the printer for 3600+ hours over two years and needed weekly maintenance, including a heater failure. Spare parts ship from China and took about 1.5 weeks in one case. Anycubic’s wiki documents error codes such as 11511 (abnormal feeding), 11504 (unknown filament), 11512 (retraction abnormal) and 10539 (G-code parsing). The S1 Max has a plastic door rather than glass, which some owners flag as a durability concern. Anycubic announced a heat-sink fan duct silicone replacement program.

Running costs and power

Beyond filament, the recurring costs are replacement activated carbon filters and any spare parts. The machine draws 2200 W at 220 V, so a dedicated circuit may be needed; the research could not confirm how that figure translates to a 120 V US outlet. Anycubic’s US store lists the 4-color Combo at $1,034, sale from $1,264, with the 8-color bundle at $1,286 and the 16-color at $1,789; the UK store lists £549 (from £849) and the EU store €599 (from €899).

Is it worth it?

At $1,034 for the 4-color Combo, the S1 Max sits between smaller multicolor printers and large industrial machines. The 350 mm build volume, active chamber heating and 350 °C hotend are the real differences; against a Bambu Lab H2S it offers roughly 15.9% more print volume for about half the price, per an owner spec comparison. If you do not need 350 mm, the smaller S1 Combo or a Bambu Lab P1S may suit you better.

Which model this is

This page covers the Anycubic Kobra S1 Max Combo, the 350 mm enclosed CoreXY printer sold with the ACE 2 Pro. The US listing is ASIN B0GSMWMS8R. The S1 Max is the large-format variant of the Kobra S1, which has a 250 mm build volume; the base Combo prints four colors and can expand to 16 with additional ACE 2 Pro units.
