Summary
A fitness-first GPS smartwatch with a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, dual-band GPS and a 475 mAh battery that lasts days between charges. Check before you buy that you can live without contactless payments or third-party apps, because the GTR 4 has neither.
Strengths
- Dual-band GPS held its own against the Apple Watch Ultra in two independent tests.
- The 1.43-inch AMOLED is bright and crisp with minimal bezels.
- At 34g, it is comfortable enough for 24/7 wear.
- Battery life outlasts the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch between charges.
Weaknesses
- There is no NFC, so no contactless payments.
- No third-party app support: no Spotify, no Google apps.
- Heart-rate accuracy swings between tests, from overestimation at rest to lag during exercise.
- Pool-swimming lap counting was broken and strength-training rep counting unreliable.
- The crown is plastic and the default strap is unremarkable.
- Sleep tracking overestimated duration by 1+ hours against a Whoop 4.0 in one test.

Battery life
Tech Advisor got just under a week from a 65% charge with heavy use, ZDNET measured about 10% drain a day, and a Reddit owner reported 12 days on an Android phone. Another owner saw 5 days with the always-on display enabled. Charging is magnetic and takes about 1h45m.
GPS and heart-rate accuracy
The dual-band L1+L5 GPS was described as on par with the Apple Watch Ultra by The Verge and Wareable, with fast signal acquisition. Heart rate is the polarizing metric. BikeRadar found readings within +/-2 bpm of a Garmin chest strap once settled, but with up to 18 bpm of lag and 10+ seconds to catch up during exertion. T3 saw about 100 bpm at rest against an actual 50, and Wareable measured an underestimation of about 10 bpm when starting or resuming runs.
Exercise and sleep tracking
Pool-swimming lap counting was broken and distance inaccurate, an issue Amazfit acknowledged and promised to fix. Automatic rep counting for strength training was unreliable in two reviews.
Apps and software
The GTR 4 runs Zepp OS 2.0 and stores music only if you load it manually through the Zepp app. There is no NFC, no Google Assistant and no third-party app store, so no Spotify and no Google apps. The Zepp app requires an account and reviewers flagged grammar and spelling issues. One owner who moved to Garmin cited infrequent patch updates, an undelivered crash-detection update and poor support.
Is it worth it?
The GTR 4 launched at $199.99 in September 2022. The Amazfit US store has listed it at $109.99, marked down from $199.99. There are no recurring costs: core features need no subscription, unlike Fitbit Premium. The value case rests on battery life and GPS accuracy rather than smart features, so it is strongest for runners and fitness users.
