Amazfit Bip U: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

The defining limitation is the absence of built-in GPS: every outdoor route, distance and pace comes from the paired phone, so a run without a phone records no route at all. There are no consumables and no subscription; the only user-replaceable part is the standard 20mm strap, and the model is discontinued in the US.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Because the model is discontinued, a dead Bip U is a replacement purchase, not a repair.

Yearly running cost

About $0 a year: there is no subscription and no accessory lock-in, and the only consumable-style replacement is the strap. [10] Amazfit’s general warranty covers manufacturing defects and excludes normal wear and tear; its product-manual boilerplate states a 12-month limited warranty, though no Bip U-specific warranty document was located. Electricity cost was not computed; charging takes about 1 h 45 m per cycle.

When it is a good buy

The model is discontinued in the US and Amazfit’s current budget watches are better specified at similar money. [9] Amazfit’s own Bip 5 is $89.99 and the Bip Max is $99.99, with bigger, brighter displays, onboard GPS and far longer battery life for the same money. [6][9] Paying more than roughly $80 for a Bip U means paying a premium for a discontinued sensor stack with no GPS; at its 2020 launch price of INR 3,999, about $55, it was defensible for 5 ATM, a Gorilla Glass screen that survived drops in testing and genuinely useful sleep tracking. [2][4] Amazfit India lists a refurbished Bip U at INR 999 against a struck-through INR 5,999. [1]
