Summary
A budget fitness band with a bright 1.47" AMOLED screen, 5 ATM water resistance and battery life measured in weeks rather than days. The catch is GPS: the Band 7 has none of its own, so distance tracking leans on your phone and the connection is unreliable.
Strengths
- Battery life is long: independent tests measured about 12 days of typical use.
- Step counting is accurate, and heart rate tracks close to a chest strap.
- 120 sports modes and the PAI score work without a subscription.
- Light at 28 g, with 5 ATM water resistance for showers and pool swims.
- Cheap to buy and cheap to keep running, with no subscription lock-in.
Weaknesses
- No built-in GPS; connected GPS through the phone drops signal and reports wrong distances.
- No ambient light sensor, so brightness is manual and the screen is hard to read in bright sun.
- Touch-only controls with no physical buttons, and the narrow screen limits on-screen text.
- The tuck-and-pin band clasp is awkward to secure one-handed and can unsnap on clothing.
- Sleep tracking is hit and miss, overcounting naps for some owners.
- No NFC, no speaker and a proprietary charger that is easy to lose.

Battery life in the real world
Amazfit claims 18 days of typical use, 12 days heavy and 28 days in battery-saver mode. Independent tests land lower. Consumer Reports measured 292 hours, about 12 days, and Tech Advisor got about 2 weeks, or 4 days with the always-on display on. Popular Science averaged about 16 days with one workout a day. Owners who switch on always-on display, 24/7 heart rate, stress and SpO2 report closer to a week, and Reddit owners see about 14 days with a few options enabled. A full charge takes about 2 hours, and Consumer Reports measured 103 minutes; a 15-minute top-up is enough for an hour-long session.
GPS and tracking accuracy
There is no built-in GPS. The band borrows your phone’s GPS over Bluetooth, and the link is the weakest part of the package. Consumer Reports called it the least-accurate GPS among the wearables it tested, and TechGearLab’s tethered satellite lock failed repeatedly. Android Central and Reddit owners report dropouts during runs.
Step counting is better. Android Central counted 2,042 steps on the band against 2,049 on a click counter over a 2.5-mile walk, with almost no false steps while sleeping or sitting. Heart rate is close to a chest strap: TechGearLab measured 93.83% accuracy against a Polar strap, with up to 30 seconds of lag in real time, and Android Police found it aligned with an Apple Watch. Sleep tracking is the mixed one: some testers find time-in-bed accurate, Tech Advisor calls it hit and miss, and owners report naps being overcounted. Nobody has published a failure rate, so treat the misses as a known annoyance rather than a defect.
Bands, charger and running costs
The tracker body pops out of the strap, so a worn band is the one part you will replace. Amazfit sells replacement straps for about $10 and a charger for about $9.99, and third-party options cost less. The charger is proprietary, with a magnetic pogo-pin connector rather than USB-C, so losing it means buying another. Nothing about the core tracking needs a subscription: heart rate, sleep, SpO2, stress and the PAI score all work without one. The optional Zepp Aura plan costs $49.99 a year and Zepp Fitness $20.99 a year, but reviewers found no significant training benefit for the money. There is no device-level repair channel; a broken screen is not an officially supported repair, and owners have reattached a separated tracker with epoxy.
Is it worth it?
At or below $50 this is an easy first tracker: bright screen, weeks of battery, 120 sports modes and no subscription. The gap to better-tested trackers narrows once the price climbs toward $60 to $70, and anyone who needs reliable GPS for running should look elsewhere at any price. The one-year warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship but not normal wear, cosmetic damage or a cracked screen. Amazfit lists the Band 7 at $49.99.
Which model this is
This page covers the Amazfit Band 7, the budget band Amazfit launched in the US on July 20, 2022. The hardware is the same across colors: black and beige ship by default, with green, blue, pink and orange straps sold separately. The Amazon listing is ASIN B09Z6CRHJ6.
Do not confuse it with the Amazfit Band 5, Band 8, Bip series or GTS/GTR watches, or with the Xiaomi Mi Band, which is a different brand.
