Amazfit Bip 5 Unity: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-17

Summary

The Bip 5 Unity is a budget smartwatch with a large TFT LCD, a stainless steel frame and a rated 11-day battery, and its main problems are the hardware it drops versus the standard Bip 5: no built-in GPS, no microphone and no speaker, so location and calls run through your phone. Owners also report real-world battery closer to 6 days with everything enabled, and the TFT LCD is a step down from the transflective screens on older Bip models. At $69.99 (Amazfit US direct, October 2026) it is a strong first smartwatch; above about $85 the missing GPS and calling make the standard Bip 5 or another budget watch the better buy.

Yearly running cost

The only recurring cost is the optional Zepp Aura subscription, which Tom’s Guide puts at $70 a year for the standard Bip 5 for advanced metrics; pricing for the Unity itself is not documented. Replacement bands are optional and unpriced in the sources, and no proprietary consumable is required.

When it is a good buy

Amazfit launched the Bip 5 Unity at $69.99 in the US in May 2024 (Zepp Health press release), and Amazfit US direct still listed $69.99 (October 2026). At or below $70 it is a strong entry-level watch; from $71 to $85 it is still reasonable; above $85 it is weak value. The standard Bip 5, listed at $90 (TechGearLab), adds GPS and on-device calling for a small premium, so step up if you need either; above $85, alternatives with independent test coverage and proven reliability are the better choice.
