Summary
A 27-inch 1440p IPS monitor for high-refresh PC gaming, with 240 Hz native (280 Hz over DisplayPort), FreeSync Premium Pro and G-SYNC Compatible VRR. Check your use case first: HDR is weak and there is no HDMI 2.1, so console and dark-room buyers are better served elsewhere.
Strengths
- Fast 240 Hz native panel overclocks to 280 Hz over DisplayPort with low input lag.
- Wide 95% DCI-P3 gamut with excellent pre-calibration color accuracy.
- Fully ergonomic stand with height, swivel, tilt, pivot and VESA mount.
- FreeSync Premium Pro and G-SYNC Compatible VRR across a 48–280 Hz range.
- Rich connectivity with two HDMI ports and a four-port USB hub.
Weaknesses
- IPS contrast of about 1000:1 makes blacks look gray in dark rooms.
- Sixteen-zone edge-lit local dimming cannot be disabled in HDR and blooms.
- No HDMI 2.1; console use is capped at 144 Hz and 1440p.
- Manufacturer’s 600 cd/m² brightness claim exceeds the 380–450 nits measured in SDR.
- No motion blur reduction and some motion blur remains at high refresh.

Picture and motion
The AW2723DF’s strength is fast, accurate PC gaming. RTINGS rates mixed use 7.1 out of 10 with “decent” PC gaming, “good” office performance and “decent” response time; DisplayNinja rates it 3.9 with strong design and performance scores but weak value. The 240 Hz native refresh overclocks to 280 Hz over DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, and input lag sits near 2 ms. Color is the other selling point: 95% DCI-P3 coverage, excellent pre-calibration accuracy and a dedicated sRGB mode. The 1 ms figure is the extreme overdrive result; the average response time is 4 ms, and some motion blur remains even at high refresh. The weak point is contrast: about 1000:1, typical of IPS, so blacks look gray and IPS glow shows in dark rooms.
HDR and console use
DisplayHDR 600 certification overstates the HDR experience. The monitor uses a 16-zone edge-lit local dimming system that cannot be turned off in HDR, so blooming appears around bright objects and colors do not pop. Independent measurements put typical SDR brightness at 380 to 450 nits, with a 700 nit HDR peak, against the manufacturer’s 600 cd/m² claim. Console use is limited: there is no HDMI 2.1, so consoles are capped at 144 Hz and 1440p, though Console Mode upscales 4K at 60 Hz HDR. Buyers who care about dark-room or HDR performance, or who play mainly on console, should look elsewhere.
Ergonomics and value
The stand is a genuine strength: 110 mm of height adjustment, ±20° swivel, -5°/21° tilt, 90° pivot and a 100×100 mm VESA mount. Connectivity includes one DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.0 ports and a four-port USB 3.2 hub, plus a headphone jack. Power draw averages about 22.4 W. On value, DisplayNinja rates price/value 2.0 and recommends the HP Omen 27qs around $350, arguing the 280 Hz versus 240 Hz difference is not perceptible and HDR is poor. DisplayNinja’s review-era figures run from $500 to $650. At about $350 or below it would be competitive; at $500 to $650 it is hard to justify unless color accuracy and ergonomics matter most. No long-term reliability or defect-prevalence data was found in the sources checked, and the warranty terms were not stated.
