Summary

A tiny, inexpensive H13 HEPA purifier for nightstands and very small rooms — genuinely quiet and cheap to run, but independent lab testing measured it cleaning far less air than its advertised 215 ft². Check your room size before you buy: the lab-measured ideal coverage is a small fraction of the advertised claim.

Strengths

  • Genuinely quiet: TechGearLab called it a “soft white-noise machine” that stays unobtrusive even on high.
  • Cheap to run: TechGearLab measured $47.79 a year all-in, the lowest of the 12 units it tested.
  • Tiny and light at about 1.8 lb, with a night light that works while the fan is off.
  • Filter changes are tool-free via the screw-off base, and third-party PU-P05/AC201B cartridges are widely available.
  • Standby draw is 0.2 W.

Weaknesses

  • TechGearLab scored its air cleaning 2.0/10 — last of 12 units — with measured ideal coverage of about 28 sq ft against the advertised 215 ft².
  • Air Purifier First measured only 69% particle improvement in a 120 ft² room and 43% in a 194 ft² room after 60 minutes at max speed.
  • No published CADR, no Energy Star certification and no filter-reset indicator on the P05.
  • Odor removal was poor despite the carbon layer, and the plastic build feels cheap.
  • Owners report filters that stay clean for months, which reads as “is it even working?” — sometimes the plastic bag was never removed.
  • Warranty terms conflict: two years in the brand’s Q&A, one year in a review, unstated in listings.

What the testing found

Two independent test outlets measured the PU-P05 and both ranked its cleaning at or near the bottom. TechGearLab lab-tested 12 purifiers and scored the PU-P05 2.0/10 on air cleaning, last of the group, with a measured ideal coverage of about 28 sq ft against FULMINARE’s advertised 215 ft²; its verdict was “Don’t waste your money, this compact unit couldn’t clean our air.” Air Purifier First’s hands-on test rated it 4.5/10 overall: at maximum speed for 60 minutes it improved air quality by 69% in a 120 ft² room and 43% in a 194 ft² room. Both outlets doubted the claimed 135 CFM CADR — Air Purifier First estimated closer to 50 CFM — and neither found an AHAM-verified CADR or Energy Star certification.

Noise and power

The 24 dB sleep-mode figure is a manufacturer number. TechGearLab measured 32.6–37.3 dB across the three speeds and called the unit a “soft white-noise machine” that was not intrusive even on high; Air Purifier First measured 41.1 dBA on low and called it one of the quietest units it has tested. The night light works independently of the fan, so it can stay on while the purifier is off.

Filters and running costs

FULMINARE says to replace the 3-stage cartridge every 3–6 months, and Air Purifier First suggests closer to 3 months in practice. Changes are tool-free via the screw-off base, and third-party PU-P05/AC201B cartridges are widely available. The manual’s troubleshooting ties the “is it even working?” reports to the filter’s plastic bag: with the bag left on, the unit runs but does not filter. Air Purifier First measured max-speed electricity at about $0.24 a month and judged filter pricing “a bit higher”, such that a year of filters can approach the price of the device itself. There is no parts channel for the fan, motor or control board; the only teardown guide found covers ionizer wires on a Fulminare H13 variant that may not be this model.

Is it worth it?

TechGearLab lists the PU-P05 at a $32 list price, the lowest in its 12-unit test. At that price it is an inexpensive extra air-mover for a tiny space where the night light and the quiet matter more than measured cleaning. Marketplace reviewers praise the size, price and quiet, and one repeat buyer owns three — living room, bedroom and office. Once the price approaches that of a small AHAM-verified unit — both testers ranked the Levoit Core Mini class higher on cleaning — the PU-P05 stops making sense for actual bedroom air cleaning. If you need to clean a real bedroom of dust, smoke, pollen or odors, the measured evidence says spend the small extra on a unit with verified cleaning performance.

Which model this is

This page covers the FULMINARE PU-P05, the compact single-unit H13 purifier. The manual names the actual manufacturer as Thirteen Technology Industry Co., Ltd in Shenzhen, and the same hardware is sold under several color and pack variants — white, black, gray 2-pack, pink — all listed as model PU-P05.

The Amazon listing for this model is ASIN B0B4ZSKPNL.

Do not confuse it with the PU-P07, which adds an air-quality monitor and auto mode, or the PU-T10, a large-room unit rated up to 1095 ft².
